But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a questions, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. – KJV Matthew 22:34-40
If we can follow these two commandments we can follow the others. People today have little to no respect for other people let alone loving other people, or following God. That is something we all need to work on. To most people it is all about me me me, and what do I want. When we need to think of God and others first.
When we commit to loving the Lord and serving him we will serve and helping others. By showing love and compassion to others we are following a commandment. Our neighbor is not just the person who lives beside us, but to all the people we meet.
This world needs a little more love and caring for people along with more attention paid to God and his will. You can always help someone someway. It may be just praying for someone or helping them pick up the stuff they dropped. It does not have to be complicated just serving others and meeting a need. Do we all have a lot of extra money to help, no always so time is just as good. Maybe helping someone do something they themselves can not do due to physical limitations. Throw a few extra bucks to someone in need when you can, or pray for people by name.
Serving God sounds easy but for many of us it takes some practice. We may do good for a while and than slide back than have to catch up again. This can go on off through out our lives. We should never stop trying to love and be committed to God. In loving God and serving him we will follow the commandments and love others. Just a few ways to serve God are to pray, read bible, help others, attend church. Make God a priority put him first, seek his will and advice. In reading the bible you can find many answers and you can get to know God.
In the above scripture they were trying to trick Jesus, but he had the perfect answer. Another commandment is thou shalt not steal, well if you are loving and serving God and loving your neighbor(people) like you would your self than you will not steal. You would not want to steal from yourself. See how following those two you follow another commandment.
When you put God first and love him than you will not make graven images or worship other fake gods.
There are so many other examples that is just a few to show you. You can find the ten Commandment which are the ones people first think of in Exodus chapter 20 and again in Deuteronomy.
So much can be followed by following those two commandments and Jesus knew that.
